In the Netherlands, this is also known as the strongest man training. Really! Flipping large tires, lifting tree trunks and heavy stone balls are all part of this programme. Of course, strength is the skill in which a ‘strongman’ athlete excels. And not just any strength.
Train at your own level
Strongman elements are always geared towards learning to move (often unwieldy) objects from daily life as quickly as possible. This is why we use these elements in our method. You wouldn’t imagine that everyone can move such heavy objects, but everyone can participate in CrossFit Strongman. All elements can be performed with relatively light and heavy objects. However, they remain unwieldy. It takes some getting used to, but as time progresses it will become much easier. Come try it out for yourself!
Is CrossFit Strongman for you?
People often think that Strongman programmes only train explosive strength. By focusing on short explosive efforts during the session, you raise your heart rate which also definitely trains your fitness.
A real strongman competition usually consists of six elements and lasts all day. Two or three elements are often combined, which is called a ‘medley’. Every element lasts a few seconds up to a few minutes. It’s a short burst of power! This will really raise your heart rate.
